Meet Jasper
Meet Jasper, a creative soul with a deep appreciation for nature, fashion, and the arts. From a young age, Jasper's unique perspective on the world has shaped his artistic journey. Whether he's exploring the great outdoors, curating his eclectic style, or collecting vintage treasures, Jasper's life is a vibrant tapestry of inspiration and self-expression. His story is one of authentic connections, including his best friend and, metaphorically speaking, sister Pien, along with the beautiful, intricate details of life that continuously fuel his creativity.
How did you and Pien meet, and is your friendship special?
We met right after she was born; we've been best friends and inseparable since day one. It's definitely a special connection. There are only a few people in life you can love so deeply.
What inspires you?
Nature, in all its extremes. This planet is weirdly beautiful, and we are such incredible beings. I still struggle to comprehend how magical it all is. I love walking and being amazed by clouds, insects, and everything around me.
What's your connection to fashion?
I've always found my own way through different subcultures. I would mix kakker, skater, and other styles, eventually finding my own style. Fashion is cool; it's a way to express yourself through colours and combinations. That's why I'm always surprised so many people only wear black.
What do you want to "say" with your own style?
Be yourself and wear what feels right. Don’t follow trends.
How did you become an artist? What would you say to aspiring artists?
I've always been interested in composition and colour. Since I was a kid, I've always been critical when it comes to art, album covers and magazines. I love looking at things. Like Warhol said, "I never read, I just look at pictures." This is how I developed my own visual vision. So, look at things and form an opinion about them.
Your house is full of personality! How do you make a house a home in your opinion?
I like to collect things. My love and I had a little vintage store in the Jordaan for a few years. We would travel to France and Italy to find cool vintage items for the shop, but if I fell in love with something, I wanted to keep it. This has turned our house into a small museum of memories. Everything means something to me, and being surrounded by these items makes me feel at home.
